Food & Water Action, the political arm of the national advocacy organization Food & Water Watch, is endorsing Jordan Yeager’s campaign for Bucks County Court of Common Pleas.
The endorsement is based on Yeager’s role as a leader in the statewide environmental movement. Yeager was the driving force behind the legal argument that reinvigorated the Environmental Rights Amendment, and has powered legal strategies to protect Pennsylvania residents from the PennEast pipeline, which is under construction in Bucks County. He has also worked to stop fracking in the Delaware River Basin, which provides drinking water to Bucks County and millions more around the region.
“Jordan Yeager’s decades of work have provided real justice for Pennsylvanians around the state,” said Sam Bernhardt, Pennsylvania Director of Food & Water Action. “Many of the communities Jordan has worked in simply wouldn’t have clean drinking water and breathable air if not for his work, but no community has benefitted from his advocacy more than his home of Bucks County. We’re proud to endorse his campaign for Bucks County Judge.”
In Robinson v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, he argued that the state oil and gas law Act 13 was an unconstitutional violation of the Environmental Rights Amendment, Article 1 Section 27 of the Pennsylvania constitution. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court concurred, ruling that the right to pure air, clean water, and a healthy environment are fundamental rights for every Pennsylvanian.
Food & Water Action has been active in Pennsylvania over the past two years, supporting winning candidates for township supervisors in Uwchlan and West Goshen Township in 2017, and playing an instrumental role in Danielle Friel Otten’s successful 2018 campaign in the 155th State House District.
